Woodfunk began around 2003 with a group of friends with a love for jacking and deep house and the free party scene. Inspired by the smokescreen parties that swept through Derby and Nottingham in the 90’s, this group of friends decided to hold a few of their own parties. Equipped with a generator and a set of decks, in the summer nights they made their way to the Peak District with a bunch of mates.
Woodfunk soon found a new home thanks to the support of a local land owner, the one and only Big Al. After throwing a few more parties during the summer and hosting a brilliant New Year’s Eve party in 2006, it was decided that we could go one better and hold our own private festival. In June 2007 Woodfunk hosted its first festival. Although the event was strictly by invitation only, our first one attracted 400 people and the following year more still.
With an ever increasing fan base, it soon became clear that Woodfunk was ready to move on from a big party for mates, to something much better. 2010 is the launch of the much anticipated ‘Woodfunk Weekender’ and our aim is to spread the Woodfunk love to the masses! Our music policy is simple – it must make you dance! From deep and jacking house to hip-hop, ska and reggae; we’ve got a little bit for something for everyone’s tastes. Though one thing that’s always essential when at a Woodfunk event…. a shovel to dig that dirt.
